Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Study Group - 2017

The Gulf Coast Chapter of CMAA will continue its effort to grow the professional status of its membership by forming a Certified Construction Manager Study Group this January.  The Group will meet in eight (8) conference call sessions to receive training on “CMAA’s Standards of Practice” with the objective of preparing the participants to take the exam and obtain their Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential.

The conference calls will be held from 3:30 to 5:30PM every other Thursday beginning January 26 and concluding on May 4.  Participants will be responsible for obtaining their own Study Kits from the CMAA website (www.cmaanet.org) and the instructors will provide homework assignments and lead Q&A during the calls.

The CCM credential is the gold standard for professional construction managers.  Those interested in joining the Study Group should notify Bill Lacher at bill.lacher@gmail.com and he will provide a class schedule by return email.

Call for Volunteers - CMAA National Conference on Capital Projects Symposium

The CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter is happy to announce that it will be hosting the CMAA National Conference on Capital Projects Symposium on April 2-4, 2017. The Symposium, to be held at The Ritz-Carlton, is a high-level conference exploring how professional construction and program management enhances quality of life by fostering improvements in our built environment and better use of resources. The event will feature education session, plenaries and keynotes, local project tours, and networking opportunities galore! The CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter hosted this event in 2013 with great success. Details on this year’s Capital Projects Symposium, held in Austin, Texas, can be found at http://www.capitalprojectssymposium.com/.

As host chapter to this outstanding event, we will help to organize the local project tours, identify volunteers to facilitate technical sessions, man the host chapter/concierge table and assist in identifying local presenters and topics. The Chapter will also be hosting its annual golf tournament during this time as an added bonus activity for the Symposium.

We are very excited about this event, especially since the 2013 event was such a success (and a lot of fun). We want our members, non-members, and owners to get involved with the planning now so that we have another excellent experience! As project managers and construction managers, we excel at planning, organizing and scheduling activities for projects and this is no different. To that end, we are looking for volunteers for the following roles in support of this national event:

- Host Chapter Committee Chair—this individual will head up the local committee, will work with Chapter and National Board members and representatives to support the Symposium.

- Golf Tournament Chair—this individual will lead the efforts for the golf tournament to be held in conjunction with the Symposium.

- Host Chapter Committee Members and Volunteers—will support the Chair in the Chapter’s support activities.

- Golf Tournament Committee Members and Volunteers—will support the Chair in the planning and execution of the golf tournament.

More details and information on each of these areas is available from Lisa Cookmeyer (lcookmeyer@trigonassociates.com).

Please contact Chapter President Jonathan Charbonnet (charbonnet@csrsonline.com) to volunteer in any of these categories. The Committee Chairs will also have the opportunity to meet with the CMAA National Executive Committee when they meet at The Ritz-Carlton in mid-July.

3rd Annual CMAA Golf Benefit Wrap Up

What a great event last Friday! The CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter 3rd Annual Golf Benefit was an outstanding event with excellent turnout at Lakewood Country Club in support of scholarship funds. The weather was fine and rain held up long enough to complete the course.

With your help, the Annual Golf Benefit has quickly become one of the Gulf Coast Chapter’s most successful fundraising efforts—not only in supporting our area scholarships financially, but also a tremendous networking event for Chapter members and industry partners. This year also saw an increase in the number of registered participants, sponsorships and prize donations. When the final donations were tallied, the net proceeds were over $4,000, all of which will go directly to funding the 2015 Scholarship awards, to be announced at the 4th Annual Regional Infrastructure Conferenceon June 10.

Thanks to our many sponsors for helping to make this event so successful. Special thanks to our Ace Sponsors, Katie’s Restaurant (Hill House Chargrilled Oysters) and Abita (Crawfish Boil/After Party). Our Eagle Sponsors included AECOM, Archer Western, Barriere Construction, CSRS, GLF Construction Corporation, GSRES, PNI, PSI, Rimkus Consulting Group, Royal Engineers, Tolunay-Wong Engineers (who also grilled and served a variety of delicious sausage on the course), Vanir, and VolkertCity Blueprint & Supply was our Birdie Sponsor, and Hole Sponsors included HNTBTerracon, and Trigon Associates.

Our outstanding donors included Lakewood Country Club, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, Lakeside Toyota, Academy Sports, and Rouses. And of course our many volunteers who made the event possible on all levels!

Winners of this year’s tournament were as follows:

- 1st Place Team: Gulf States Construction Services, comprised of Jason Reibert, Matt Saucier, Jacob Wilkerson and Bryce Fugarino

- 2nd Place Team: CSRS, comprised of John Haarala, Kevin Ferguson, Jonathon Perret and Darin Cooper
