Welcome Aboard!

We are very happy to welcome our most recent CMAA Owner Organization Member, the City of New Orleans. It is clear that the City of New Orleans values the importance of supporting a professional organization which promotes the standards and best practices of the project delivery industry that we are all part of. The City is supporting its professionals in Certified Construction Manager (CCM) training, which will further validate the City professionals abilities to apply effective management techniques to the planning, design, and construction of a project from inception to completion for the purpose of controlling time, cost and quality.

Through this org membership, City staff (eg, Capital Projects Administration/PDU, Public Works, Inspector General, Code Enforcement, Coastal and Environmental Affairs, Hazard Mitigation, NORA, Safety and Permits, etc) can join CMAA for no additional cost, enjoying the benefits of full membership in CMAA; these benefits include professional resources such as online training sessions (great for PDH/CEU requirements), promotion (eg, publications, "Find a CM/PM" directory, professional certification and networking/business opportunities.

Along with our first owner members, the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans, the City of New Orleans staff is taking advantage of the Chapter activities through a strong appearance at our last Professional Development Session and will also be attending in force for the upcoming Professional Development Session on October 31 focusing on the Louisiana Public Bid Law.

We appreciate the support by our owner members and look for support in other areas of Chapter activities as well.

Welcome aboard!

June 2014 CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter Spotlight - Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans

This month's spotlight is on the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans. The Sewerage and Water Board, through General Superintendent Joseph R. Becker, PE, and his technical staff, have provided consistent support to the CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter. This support has been through attending the Chapter's monthly Professional Development sessions, hosting several of these sessions, and participation in the Chapter's Annual Infrastructure Conference. Recently, the Sewerage and Water Board has become the Chapter's first local owner member, a significant milestone for the Gulf Coast Chapter. We applaud the Sewerage and Water Board in this decision and in recognizing the significant value that construction management, program management and project management add to the construction delivery process, from conception to ongoing operation. This is especially exciting for the Sewerage and Water Board as it embarks on its first alternative delivery project (design-build), continue several ongoing Hurricane Katrina recovery programs, and moves toward the execution and delivery of a significant number of capital projects over the next few years.

February 2014 CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter Spotlight - Lisa Cookmeyer

Lisa Cookmeyer was the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), Gulf Coast Chapter’s (GCC) first female President.  Being first is nothing new to Lisa who,  as President of Trigon Associates,  led her company to grow not only in American markets but internationally as well.  Under Lisa’s leadership, the CMAA GCC expanded to include meetings in Baton Rouge and membership outreach into Mississippi and Alabama.  Lisa’s ability to coordinate work on multiple projects simultaneously was a tremendous benefit to the GCC as each Chapter Committee has several initiatives that equally require leadership’s keen eye and intuitive guidance.  Lisa was a Chapter President who not only moved the GCC forward, but also set in motion opportunities for Chapter growth well into the future.  Lisa’s leadership and success as the Gulf Coast Chapter President earned her an invitation from CMAA National to join the Regional Chapter Committee which helps promote the growth of new and existing regional chapters and helps facilitate chapter to chapter communications and idea exchange. CMAA has benefited greatly from Lisa's leadership and dedication, and those who know and work with her are better for the association, the friendship, and the experience.
