February 2014 CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter Spotlight - Lisa Cookmeyer

Lisa Cookmeyer was the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), Gulf Coast Chapter’s (GCC) first female President.  Being first is nothing new to Lisa who,  as President of Trigon Associates,  led her company to grow not only in American markets but internationally as well.  Under Lisa’s leadership, the CMAA GCC expanded to include meetings in Baton Rouge and membership outreach into Mississippi and Alabama.  Lisa’s ability to coordinate work on multiple projects simultaneously was a tremendous benefit to the GCC as each Chapter Committee has several initiatives that equally require leadership’s keen eye and intuitive guidance.  Lisa was a Chapter President who not only moved the GCC forward, but also set in motion opportunities for Chapter growth well into the future.  Lisa’s leadership and success as the Gulf Coast Chapter President earned her an invitation from CMAA National to join the Regional Chapter Committee which helps promote the growth of new and existing regional chapters and helps facilitate chapter to chapter communications and idea exchange. CMAA has benefited greatly from Lisa's leadership and dedication, and those who know and work with her are better for the association, the friendship, and the experience.

January PD Session Wrap-Up

Last Friday (January 24), we kicked off our 2014 Professional Development series with a session focusing on a key component of construction management—time management.  Leo Sumner II, Principal and founding member of The Tiburon Group (tTG), presented an extremely informative presentation entitled, “Improved Project Control Through Scheduling”.  The program took the topic of project control to the next level, and provided valuable insights on industry practices (or lack of) from real-world experiences.  Leo provided tips on what to look for when reviewing schedules, detailed how schedules can be manipulated to hide delays, and other nuggets of information for anyone working with schedules that can be applied to single projects as well as programs of multiple projects.

As you can see from the photos, the lunchtime event was well attended despite the freezing weather last Friday.

As promised, we have posted the presentation to the Gulf Coast Chapter website—you’ll find it on our “Events” page (under Previous Events) or via link: Jan 2014 Presentation

We hope you find this information helpful and for those of you who attended, invite you to take a quick survey (2 minutes) on last week’s session.  You can access the survey here: Jan 2014 PD Session Survey. Survey ends February 13th and is completely anonymous. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Professional Development Session on February 14 focusing on the practical application of the General Conditions of construction contract documents.

If you would like to see more pictures from the session, visit the meeting gallery page.

Call for Volunteers

Do you want to support the CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter but are short on time?

Are you looking for a way to get involved but cannot commit to regular committee involvement?

Do you enjoy the CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter events throughout the year?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, then the CMAA Gulf Coast Chapter WANTS YOU!

We are seeking volunteers who are ready to lend a hand to the Chapter in supporting the Professional Development events.  We have the 2014 events calendar established, we have the speakers, venues and catering lined up—we just need a few enthusiastic folks to handle the logistics (confirm speaker, coordinate set-up and catering, etc) of the events.  You can work on one or all—or any in between—it’s your call!  It’s a great (and easy) way to get involved on a level that will not be a huge commitment—but will be a benefit to you in learning more about the Chapter.  Whether you’re in New Orleans or Baton Rouge, we have meetings that you can help with!

For more information and to sign up, contact Jonathan Charbonnet (Charbonnet@csrsonline.com) or John Haarala (John.Harala@jacobscsrs.com) today!
